Our community has been betrayed over a pledge to build a £1/2bn Hatfield super-hospital-- now they have announced that we will lose our acute services at the QEII too. Maternity, A&E, Paediatrics, Elderly Care and Surgery are all about to be under review. Stand up and be counted before it's too late!

LATEST NEWS! Consultation outcome axes all major services from QE2 Hospital.  || Community betrayed by health bosses. || Hospital SOS Taskforce considers launching a Judicial Review into the flawed consultation process. ||

Shame consultation ends in the axing of services at the QE2. At a time when the Government wants Welwyn Hatfield's population to expand at an unprecedented pace, here's how the official documents excuse their decision.

This paper maps out what health bosses believe is now the way forward for healthcare in Hertfordshire.

Future of Herts Healthcare (note the omission over cancer care).

Responses from the consultation. (Note that they downgrade responses made over the web).

Board decision document (basically justifying what everyone can see is a ludicrous decision which fails to take into account projected population growth).

Dear Resident,

The recent decision to close all the acute services at the QE2 Hospital will not come as any surprise to a community who have long been fearing the worse.

The fact that the process was called a consultation at all brings the whole theory of consulting into disrepute, as everyone knows that the decision had already been taken up front.

The fact that in three short years we have gone from being promised a brand new super-hospital in Hatfield when a Government health Minister was then our MP, to having that pledge removed after she lost her seat... to the Government also engineering a situation where we have now lost the major services at our existing QE2 hospital, is all simply unforgivable.

No one will ever forget how this happened and how the community has been completely ignored, despite campaigning together with all political parties joining to speak with one voice against the closures.

This decision makes a mockery of consultation and ignores democratic representation.

People will have to come to their own decisions about how and why we've reached this position.

Yours,

Grant Shapps MP
Chairman Hospital SOS Taskforce
